Blade Runner Sweded - in Osaka Japan
Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 4:33PM
The "sweding" [wikipedia.org] of popular films has been a bit of a growing trend for some time now. The ubiquity of Youtube has only accelerated the spread of this phenomenon.
Of course, the most awesome movie of all time (IMHO) is Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi masterpiece, Blade Runner. It was only a matter of time before it was officially sweded.
In fact, Blade Runner hasn't only be sweded, its been copied wholesale by a handful expatriates living in my old home town of Osaka, Japan.
Osaka always was a dystopia ahead of its time. I can recall numerous times when out-of-town friends or family visiting from afar commented on how much the downtown core of Osaka resembled Blade Runner's hellish urban sprawl.
Ridley Scott was likely thinking the same thing when he shot Black Rain [imdb.com] there in 1989.
Kudos go out to the fellow inhabitants of Japan's 2nd city for their efforts on this one.
